I'm happen to be a "rectangle." Which basically means I have no waist. To combat this I have two go to styling tips for you other "rectangles:"
1. Add a layer (like a cardigan or jacket).
2. Add a belt.
I was really excited when Whitney wore this outfit. I had those pieces in my closet and had wanted more inspiration on how to wear that skirt. This is a prime example of knowing your body, though. Because I'm a rectangle/ruler/boy shape Whitney's outfit looked great on her but not so hot on me.
I stated above my go to styling tips for defining my waist are adding a belt or adding a layer. Here, a belt does not work when the skirt has an elastic waist, however, adding a layer does.
Automatically adding the jacket gives me a more defined waist. Thank goodness! What about your, what tips do you have to help you look the best with your own body shape? Here's some more pictures of this look styled:
Jacket: The Limited similar
Top: Old Navy $4 same
Skirt: Target $12 same
Necklace: Stella and Dot Rebel Pendant same
Shoes: Target $30 same
The jean jacket is the perfect finishing touch..you look amazing!
ReplyDeleteGreat tips, Ginny. And that jacket definitely changed the entire look!
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I think finding your body shape is half the battle to dressing and flattering your body. Play up the good stuff and know how to hide your flaws so you can look your best! What a difference the denim jacket made in your outfit. Super cute!
ReplyDeleteLove the skirt and top together! Perfect example of how one little tweak can change an entire look!

First of all, I love your outfit and pattern mixing! Second of all, these are really great tips! I like how you defined each body type and gave examples of how to style it! I've just been guessing at my body type till now. :)
ReplyDeleteDressing for your body type is so important! Out of these choices, I think I'm an inverted triangle, which can be tricky. I'm bigger on top than on bottom so I always have to get smaller skirts an pants and larger tops. Such a helpful post!
ReplyDeleteWhat a cute post! Knowing your body and what works for your body type is definitely important. Love your outfit, you look so pretty. :)

Cute! I love your version of the orange striped top with the floral skirt -- the denim jacket was a great idea! You look great--and I am always glad that other bloggers acknowledge different body shapes. I think that's why I love the blogs that I do -- they aren't mannequins and don't wear catch-all outfits. You definitely know what works for you! :)
ReplyDeleteLove that skirt with the stripes and denim! And that is hands down one of my favorite S&D necklaces!! Thanks for linking up!

I am definitely a pear shape and it's only been recently that I've begun learning how to dress for my body shape. Unfortunatly, I love the styling other body shapes can pull off. I'm learning to be thankful for what the good Lord gave me. ;-)
ReplyDeleteThis is great! I absolutely agree that blogging has helped me learn how to dress my body, and how to modify inspiration from someone with a different body type to make a similar outfit work for me. It's cool to see your outfit without the jacket and then with it. I thought the outfit was cute without the jacket, but then it just looked a lot better with the jacket! I still really wish I had that skirt!
ReplyDeleteWow! This is some great info. And you're right, the difference with just adding the jacket is HUGE! I'm hour-glass bordering on pear-shaped, so I always try to define my waist and bring the attention up to my neckline to take attention away from my (slightly oversized) legs and booty.
ReplyDeleteGreat Feature. I enjoyed reading it. I love how much that Jean Jacket changes the whole look and makes it much better.
ReplyDeleteI am dying because I am in inverted triangle and literally every detail describes my shape haha. Thanks for the tips on what works best. Thanks again for linking up to Trend Spin, and make sure to come back next week for bows!!

Great post! It's so important to know your own body...it sounds a bit vain saying it that way but it does wonders for dressing! You will then realize certain trends may not work exactly the same way but you can incorporate trends in a different way! =)

Fab post!
ReplyDeleteI can se your post helping an awful lot of people out there.
You can learn so much from blogging. When I started blogging, my fashion sense... well... was not all that great. As I'm quite petite, I felt compelled to only buy from the petite section however the amount of inspiration I got from fellow bloggers, it's a totally different story now.

great tips! Plus your outfit is sooooo cute and glamorous! I love the mix of prints and the jean jacket adds the perfect touch. =)
