Mix It Mondays: Herringbone Vest

Today I'm excited to be co-hosting Mix It Monday's with Lauren at Fizz and Frosting. It's no secret I love my herringbone vest, so it was an easy choice to show today. This vest really does go with everything! I picked up this vest on super clearance at J.Crew Factory after Christmas and love the yellow paired wit the black here. This outfit already made an appearance on Instagram, but great outfit need to be worn again! The next time I wear it, I'm planning on pairing it with this in colbalt (it's 40% off today, by the way). On another note, last summer I did a post on knowing and dressing for your body type and it was a great success. I'd like to expand on it and I need your help. I really only gave outfit ideas for a rectangle, because that's what I am. Here's my pitch: Are you hourglass, pear, apple, or triangle shaped? Send me a picture of you in all black (with or without your face) if I get more than one of each body type I'll choose at random. Then I'll create Polyvore sets for you and others with your body type as outfit inspiration, as well as tips to best utilize your best qualities. Chelsea and Ginny Take On: Christmas (and my herringbone vest)

This week Chelsea and I are taking on Christmas! It's almost here and today we're going to share with you a delicious breakfast recipe and a comfy outfit idea. I'm loving my herringbone vest and think it's perfect for Christmas day! This time I tried it with red, my chambray, and flats. I love this look and am so glad I ended up getting this vest! When it comes to Christmas day I definitely want to be comfy so I think this look will be perfect!

Also, I really wish it was socially acceptable to wear vests and black jeans everyday, because it's gotten really cold here!

Herringbone Vest

If you follow me on Instagram, you already got a sneak peek at this vest (which is now sold out).....I've worn it three times since getting it and could probably devote a whole Pinterest board to pinned looks I have for inspiration. Today I decided to pair it with this in a solid chambray and my black jeans with boots. It was a super cozy and easy look, but I totally felt put-together. This outfit combo has quickly become a favorite, I hope you all don't tire of it too soon, because I think you'll see a lot of variations this winter. : )

Pinspiration to Reality: Translating Couture

Today I'm going to share with you my final tip for pinspiration success. It's all about translating couture into an everyday look. I don't know about you, but it's hard for me to follow blogs or pin looks that seem so out of the realm of something I could ever wear; they don't seem to translate to my life style. Take for example Blair. The style. Oh my, the style. Before a trend has even make it on my radar Blair has been wearing it, and wearing it well for like a year. As beautiful as every look is, it's hard for me to relate to her or her style. Take my inspiration today, this one look of Blair's is pretty much the cost of my clothing budget for THE ENTIRE YEAR.

This is where my tip come in: look at the idea of the outfit, not the outfit as a whole. Take away the Chanel Broach and trade in these $350 JCrew pants for a more affordable option, and you've got a a great professional look that easily works for every-day wear.

Polka Dots and Stripes

Blog Everyday in May Challenge, Day 8: A piece of advise I have for others:

If you are unhappy with who you are now, you can change. The person I am today is very different than the person I was in college, even more so the person I was in high school. For a very long time I was super concerned about what other's thought of me, as well as having their acceptance. I ended having a pretty wild lifestyle and am seriously lucky to be alive today. It's totally by the grace of God that I am here. During this whole time of chaos I was pretty unhappy and kept searching for happiness in activities, possessions, and other people. It wasn't until I realized that God thought I was "good enough" that I felt a weight lifted off my shoulders, and truly was able to get comfortable in my own skin. I'm still far from perfect, but now I know that's ok. : )

Now to my outfit:For whatever reason, I haven't worn my chambray in quite some time but when I pulled out this skirt I really wanted to wear it, and a little subtle pattern mixing came to mind. Both of these pieces I probably would have passed up a year ago, but I love the outfit possibilities I can create with both. :)
