Feedback Time : )

Hi everyone, I hope you're all having a great weekend.  Recently Audrey shared the results of a survey she had asked her readers to complete.  I thought it was a great idea, so I decided to ask you ladies to do the same.  I think feedback is great, and I want to make sure I'm doing my best on this little blog each day.  So, what do you think?  Take a minute to take my survey down below and share your thoughts with me. There are eight questions and just hit "done" once you're, you know, done. : )

Here's a quick weekend look for you all too.  Gotta keep is casual when you're fighting the crowds at Wal-Mart.....

Snakeskin and Neon

Today is Grant's three year appointment.  I always look forward to these wellness checks and to where Grant is with his height/weight, etc.  It's also a great opportunity to ask his pediatrician questions, like how much sleep should he be getting right now, should he be taking vitamins and so forth.  This tee and shorts combo has definitely been one of my favorites this summer and it's great for days like this.  After Grant's appointment we're going to a water park and I'm pretty excited to get a chance to soak up some rays. : )

I also decided to enter Chippmuck.com's Expert Shopper Contest again with this outfit. I came in 7th last time and the top five won. Help me make the top five this time by loving my look here. You can vote each day too. I seriously appreciate it ladies!

Also, I've decided to start accepting sponsors! If you're interested in growing your blog, take a look at my stats and options for sponsorship here. Ads starting at $5!

An Old Favorite

So, I can't believe I haven't worn this outfit on the blog yet.  I've probably worn it fifty times and it's one of my favorite go-to looks in the summer.  I think sometimes I'm trying to get so creative with my clothes that I forget to wear outfits on here that I already know "work." Are any other bloggers like this, or is it just me?

I also have finally gotten to the point where I can wear something I love without feeling the need to "blog" it.  I know, that's weird that it's taken me so long right?  I really want this blog to be a fun creative outlet for me and not something that keeps me from wearing what I want, when I want.

You who follow me know I take my pictures for the week all at one time, then set up my posts for the following week.  For the longest time I felt like I had to wear "Monday's outfit" on Monday in real life.  I have quite a few friends and co-workers who read my blog and I didn't want to feel like a fraud if they saw me.  Here was the problem though, sometimes I didn't feel like wearing "Monday's outfit" on Monday, I wanted to wear "Thursday's outfit" instead.  In the last few months I've let go of that and sometimes I wear the outfit on the day I post and sometimes I don't.  And that's ok.

I also decided to enter Chippmuck.com's Expert Shopper Contest again with this outfit. I came in 7th last time and the top five won. Help me make the top five this time by loving my look here. I seriously appreciate it ladies!

Bright and Cheery

About a week ago I got an email that Loft had a "Flash Sale," everything 50% off, so I went to check it out.  I found some great things, including this top, necklace, and these shorts for great prices. I also found these wedges at Target. I'd been wanting the perfect pair and didn't see anything at DSW I liked, then when I was in Target "getting groceries" I found these bad boys.  I pretty much love them.  I wore this last week to the Grantster's birthday party at a bounce house.....then the next day to the zoo. Yep, loved it that much. ;)

I also decided to enter Chippmuck.com's Expert Shopper Contest again with this outfit. I came in 7th last time and the top five won. Help me make the top five this time by loving my look here. I seriously appreciate it ladies!

(Striving to Be) Super-Mom Summer Series

Don't forget to enter to win my giveaway for $100 credit to Cushe.com here!

This last week has been a busy one.  Grant had his birthday party with family, a little party at school, and a bounce house party with his two besties.  It's been fun. :)  On top of all the birthday festivities we did some transportation activities.

Books: We went to the library and got a bunch of different books on trains, car, and construction vehicles.  Grant's favorite book happened to be called "Rain Train," I think we read it like five times a day. Here's a bunch of different books you can pick about trains.

Crafts: We made a "Name Train" together. I got the idea here.  It was great for letter recognition.  I had the train parts cut and ready to go, Grant was in charge of getting things in the right order and glued down.  The kid LOVES glue.

Craft: Thumb Print Train.  I got the idea here.  We're actually going to do it today, so I'll have to let you know how it goes.  So cute though!

Car Wash: I got the idea here and it's pretty much genius!  Grant played for a super long time and we actually did the activity more than once.  Score.

That's actually all the activites we had time for this week, I have a bunch more pinned I think Grant will like, so I think I'll continue with Transportation for next week too.

Now, here are some pictures from the Granster's birthday.  He had fun : )

Stuffed Spider-Man from Grandpa.  He now sleeps with it every night....

He loves his new bike, so fun!

The Spider-Man cake : )

Cake Face : )

He's loving his train set add on from Grandma!

Grant and his besties at the bounce house : )

Also, we attempted to get three year pictures taken at a big box and they were a disaster.  Such a bummer, so I went to the park and took a few.  I think they turned out ok, here are a few favorites:

(He has a sucker in his mouth from a job well done)

Thanks for humoring my shameless picture sharing and have a great weekend!

Stripe Love

This has been the best summer that I can remember. The Granster and I have had so much fun while Dad's at work, and we've had a lot of great family time too. I think I'm at about the mid-summer point and don't even want to think about having to go back to school. Urg. I'd say the one thing I do miss is dressing up, though. I've had a lot of fun with print shorts and casual skirts, but I kind of miss heels and dresses. Speaking of, I am so glad I picked up this dress at Loft, it's proving to be pretty versatile and you know I love stripes.  I decided to add this bright cardigan and belt with it, as well as my leopard heels just for fun. I'm wearing I to church Sunday, the one day a week I still get to really dress up. :)

How I Thrift

Back in the fall I did a post on tips for thrifting here, but thought it would be fun to re-visit the topic.  I thought I'd share some favorite finds and what works for me when I'm out searching for deals. These three tips are most important to me.
  • Fit is key, and I only buy if the fit is perfect on me.  When thrifting don't think about the size or brand, think about fit.
  • Great quality is also at the top of my list.  I don't buy pieces that show signs of wear, if it doesn't look new, don't buy it.
  • I find pieces that are on trend AND my style.  I always think about what hot now when shopping and steer clear of getting excited over the brand that shows up at the thrift store.
It might sound silly, but I think about what to wear while thrifting.  I like to wear "easy" clothes like plain shirts with a tank underneath and basic bottoms.  When thrifting you can end up trying on some pretty unique clothes, but when you pair it with a basic top or bottoms it's easier to help translate it into a really outfit.  I also wear easy shoes, so I can try to steer clear of having to be barefoot.  Gross.

Be a visionary!  Think about what you have at home that would go with the items you're trying on; think about how you'd style it.  Thrifting is so different than going into a department store and being able to buy a whole matching outfit easily.  The outfit below is the only time I can remember getting the items at the same time and having them actually "go" together.

top (Loft) and skirt (Old Navy) both thrifted

When I'm out shopping the store I pick up about anything I think is cute to try on.  I don't think too much about size, because everything can fit so differently.  I usually don't have a lot of luck with cotton tops, as they pill easily, but knits and woven fabrics usually wear well.  I also don't look at everything.  I stick to looking for great colors, prints, and textures

Once in the fitting room I re-assess what I picked up and discard before even beginning to try things on.  Below are two things that didn't make the initial cut while I was recently thrifting.   Both were pretty worn with a lot of pilling. No matter the top was Loft and the coat Guess, if it's worn out don't waste your time.

New with tags???? This always gets me excited, but fit is key. Recently I found a white, linen mini-skirt that was Juicy Couture with the tags still on.  Problem: I am not a 13 year old girl.  Pass. I also found a new Loft sweater, but it was way too big on me. Pass again.  Remember what I said, fit is key, if you don't like the fit, it doesn't matter if it has the tags on it. This skirt below was new with tags from the Limited and fit great, definitely worth buying!

Top (Apt. 9) and skirt (The Limited) both thrifted

Hmmm, maybe.  That's what I thought when I recently saw a romper on the rack.  I'd never tried on a romper, so I thought "what the heck?"  Verdict:  it fit nicely, but it's so not me.  It's great to find on trend item's while thrifting, but don't try to be someone other than yourself.  My husband wouldn't have left the house with me if I was wearing that romper.  Pass. These white jeans and this print top on the other hand, so on trend and fit perfectly.  Awesome finds!

top (Kohl's) and jeans (CAbi) both thrifted

Sometimes I come across items that fit pretty well, don't show signs of wear, and are cute, but I still don't buy them.  Why, you ask?  I don't need them. If an item is too similar to something else I have I really don't need two.  Even if it's a really good deal, don't just buy something to buy it. This cardigan below and red shorts were great additions to my closet.  Both were unlike other things I owned and fit my criteria for buying: cute, fit, and on trend.

I hope these tips helped all of you who love a deal and love to thrift.  What tips do you have to share for finding great thrifted items?
