Chartreuse and White

I have been on the hunt for the perfect white blazer for nearly a year and finally found what I was looking for recently at JC Penney. I'll tell you what they have seriously upped their game and I've been really pleased with all the things I've found there this year.  That night I pinned a bunch of outfits with white blazers. I love the look of them with jeans and decided to try it with my pretty much forgotten chartreuse shirt I got for a steal last spring at Loft.  I really love how this came together.

March Budget

March Budget

I'm linking up with Fran for Budgeting Bloggers.  This month I added a number of things to my closet.  I only spent like $12 in January and $56 in February; I think I was just not interested in buying more winter clothes.  Now as it's starting to warm up I had a number of things on my wishlist I was on the look out for this month.  Here's what I bought:

J. Crew Factory flip flops: $12- My favorite flip flops are from here and have lasted me like seven years, well, they were so thin on the bottom it hurt to walk in them when I pulled them out this Spring.  Luckily I found these as a replacement for a fair price.
Utility Jacket: $12  I actually got the solid green version no longer available online.  It's no secret my utility vest is one of my favorite things, so when I found out there was a jacket version I was excited and I got it for a steal!
Leopard flats: $8 I've also been on the hunt for a pair of these and I can't believe how inexpensive and cozy these are!
Sperry's: $23 I stumbled across these while trying to sell some clothes at Plato's Closet.  Mine are like these, minus the pink.  The are so stinking comfortable and I'm so glad to add these to my wardrobe.
Crystal Cluster necklace: $28  This necklace is my favorite thing right now. Love. It. It goes with everything!
White Blazer: $27 I have been on the hunt for the perfect one for over a year and I love this version I found at JCP.
Mossimo Ankle Pant: $20 My black jeans are officially gray so I really needed a replacement and love these ones from Target.  I was able to use a Cartwheel coupon and get these for a great price too!
Diana Necklace $15 (not shown above) This and the necklace below are two of my new favorite pieces, stay tuned for a blog debut next week!
Kim Necklace $13 (not shown above) Love this one!

Total: $158

This is more than I usually spend in a month, honestly.  However I came out way ahead this month.  In between selling clothes at Plato's and on my Insta-closet and income from blogging I have a nice amount to spend in Kansas City when I go there for the Go Blog Social next weekend.  Really, I'll probably just hoard most of it away until I really find something else I really need to have.

I also thought I'd show you some of my favorite  Instagram outfits from this month too. Most of my new pieces are shown below too. For March I still needed a lot of layers!  I'm hoping that changes in April.

Sponsor Spotlight and Link up

Today I'm excited to have Susan from  Charming Lucy guest posting.  You'll also have a change to enter her awesome giveaway and join her fun link up too!  Take it away, Susan!

I am Susan from the Charming Lucy blog.  Today's outfit inspiration comes from none other than Ginny of My New Favorite Outfit, and my Ohio friend Heather of H&K Style Journey. Heather is another fabulous fashion blogger you should get to know! I am loving colored pants for spring this year. Ginny and Heather provide us with these fabulous ways to style red pants. Striped blazer with red pants I purchased this striped blazer at Maurices last year and have never worn it! I am not sure why, but I popped it on with my red Loft pants and fell in love! I am a cardigan girl, but will certainly be adding more blazers to my wardrobe soon. I prefer the stretchy type material, so it fits and feels more like a soft sweater. The leopard shoes add a bit of a contrast to the outfit. I may add a belt when I wear this outfit again. Any suggestions on what color belt would look best?

Head to Toe Chic: Spring Essentials

Welcome to Niki at Glossy Blonde and link-up, "Head to Toe Chic!" This months topic is "Spring Essentials." We can't wait to see your posts!

When Spring finally decided to make an appearance I was so excited to switch out my sweaters and boots for spring blouses and wedges!  These are the things I think are essential when it comes to Spring:
  1. Great prints: I found this blouse at the Gap outlet and love it!  Here's another blouse I'm currently crushing on.
  2. Bright colors: I love my Coach bag I got last summer and I was so excited to get it back out!  Coach came out with the same bag in some great new colors this Spring too!
  3. Sandals and Wedges: I was so excited to get these out again! I love getting to put my socks away and have an excuse to get a pedicure too.  The wedges I'm wearing here are from last summer.  I'm on the hunt from some new ones and am loving these right now.
  4. White jeans: I've had these for a few years, but honestly they're bigger than I remember..which I guess isn't a bad problem to have, except now I don't think I should wear them anymore.  I thought about checking out these but then decided to alter my white jeans into ankle pants instead and give these to Goodwill.
  5. Nourished hair: I don't know about you, but I feel like my hair has taken a beating this winter.  It has been feeling so dry, maybe it's just me getting older.  I recently found this deep conditioner at Target.  I really like TRESemme' products and was very impressed with the results and the price was great too.
So, what about you, what are your Spring essentials!  Link up below!

Chevron Love

I am so loving being able to wear skirts again with bare legs and NOT freeze to death.  I'm also still loving this top from Bradamant.  I really couldn't wait to wait it again, and this time I decided to pair it with my purple skirt.  I really love how it came together.  I know I'll get such great use out of this top for a long time!

Also, I hope you'll link up this Thursday for Niki at Glossy Blonde and I for our Head to Toe Link up featuring your Spring Essentials.  The button is on my sidebar to grab. : )

Denim or Utility?

A few weeks ago I saw this pin and loved the idea of it.  I decided to try to create my own spin, but once I had it together I thought it was cute, but just wasn't sure.  So, I did what any blogger could do, I took pictures with my utility jacket, then swapped it out for my denim jacket and decided to take a look at the pictures to decide which one to wear.  The result: I actually like both!  I wore the utility jacket version last Thursay and plan to wear the denim jacket version soon. I'm also so loving my new shoes from Payless of all places.  They are amazing and were only $8!

Copy Cat

Pretty much none of the credit for today's outfit can come from me, you can thank this pin for the inspiration.  I really loved the ease of it and switched out the sandals for booties to fit our weather here.  I also am excited to wear my new utility jacket, I seriously love this! I have the vest version and was so excited to find it came in a jacket!  This will be the perfect piece for me to pull from all spring!

Also, I hope you'll link up this Thursday for Niki at Glossy Blonde and I for our Head to Toe Link up featuring your Spring Essentials.  The button is on my sidebar to grab. : )

Style Swap Link up: Week Seven

This week I'm Style Swapping with Andi at Just Another Smith.  I loved this chic look last week and was excited to create my spin on it.  I didn't have a plain gray shirt, so I decided to try it with my graphic tee from Express.  I also ended up altering these jeans to make them ankle pants.  Last summer I cuffed them and I just didn't like the look this year.  I'm excited about how they turned out here!

Also, as fun as this link up has been, Jenn and I have decided this will be the last week of the link up. I'm still going to be doing my monthly link up with Niki at Glossy Blonde so I'd love for you to join us next Thursday the 27th to link up a post featuring your fashion and beauty Spring Essentials. You can grab the button from my sidebar. :)

Sperrys at the Zoo

If you follow me on Instagram you already know I scored these brand new Sperry's at Plato's Closet for $23.  Because of the price when you buy them at department stores I had never even tried any on before.  You. Guys.  They feel like you're wearing slippers.  I wore them for the first time when Grant and I went to the zoo over spring break. It was still pretty cool that day so these layers were perfect. I found this utility jacket at JC Penney recently for $12 and I am crazy about it.  Grant and I had a great time and it was so good to get outside!

Black and White

I'll tell you what ladies, this  skirt is one of my favorite purchases!  I love everything about it and it washed great and I didn't even have to iron it. Score!  Today I decided to pair it with a black lace top and simple cardigan.  The whole idea of black and white usually makes me think of a waiter, but I really love how it came together here.  What color combinations are you crazy about right now?

How To: Stack Bracelets

This week for my How-to series I'll be covering how to stack bracelets.  Last year everyone was "throwing an arm party," but I don't hear that term much anymore, that doesn't change the fact that I love to wear multiple bracelets at once.  Today I'll share with you some ways to stack your bracelets.
  • Mix your metals. My favorite bracelets to wear are the MoxieGilded ArrowRenegade, and the Chimera (which is retired). Adding in the Moxie is great to add some color and the different textures of the bracelets make this an interesting combo and my go-to for sure.
  • Make a statement with your bracelets.  Pick one of two gold or silver bracelets you love, then add a bold color that coordinates with your outfit to add to the combo.  I love the Triple Wrap and Peacock.  I wear a lot of those colors, so having them as statement pieces makes sense.  Look at the colors you like to wear most, then think about adding one or two bold bracelets of your own.
  • I also like to wear my silver Renegade and Urbane with my new watch too.  If the metals match, wearing bracelets on the same wrist as your watch can be really great.
  • Lastly, make sure to coordinate your bracelets with your necklace.  If you're wearing a gold necklace, it goes without saying that you should wear gold bracelets and vise-versa.
  • If you're wearing a really bold necklace, keep your bracelets more basic and try not to wear both a bold statement necklace and a bold statement bracelet.
  • I know I've shown you all Stella and Dot pieces, I know they are more expensive, but I've had all over mine for nearly a year and they all look the same as the day I got them.  When you spend more on pieces they can tend to last longer.  Think about a few nicer pieces to invest in, no need to get them all at once!

Think Spring With MDC Artistic Designs

Today I'm excited to be sharing MDC Artistic Designs with you.  This wonderful shop features beautiful one of a kind jewelry at affordable prices.

Marlene Chiasson is the Jewelry Designer and Owner of MDC Artistic Designs. She is originally from Canada and now lives in Virginia with her husband and son where they share a love for hiking, biking, traveling, and enjoying their neighborhood in the lovely historic downtown.  Her business goal is to make creative, one-of-a-kind, and modern accessories to inspire women to have confidence and discover their own unique style.

Beauty and quality does not have to be sacrificed when it comes to affordable jewelry.  Marlene works with a handful of suppliers known for the quality that she is looking for when creating jewelry.  She makes one-of-a-kind jewelry that she doesn't reproduce after selling an item.

Marlene also keeps her jewelry affordable for all women without sacrificing  quality materials that will be long lasting.  The earring filling is all gold filled or sterling silver material and the earring posts are all sterling silver.  She also uses natural, luxe AA or AAA gemstones whenever possible.  Otherwise, she uses glass beads and gemstones to make wonderful earrings at an affordable price.

I don't know about you, but I'm seriously craving spring! I thought it would be fun to create some great spring looks featuring the beautiful jewelry from MDC Artistic Designs.

The first pair of earrings I love were the By the Sea earrings.  I love the teal and coral combo and I think it just screams spring! I paired it with this great chevron dress and bold coral necklace.  I want to wear this to Sunday brunch, like yesterday!

Style Swap Link up: Week Six

Welcome to week six of Jenn and my Style Swap link up!  It's been so fun to see what you all are coming up with each week!  Last week I had Inge and Haley both show their takes on my looks, thanks girls! This week I chose to style swap with Danielle.  I loved her fur vest with polka dots and decided to create my spin on it.  This week I'm packing away all my winter clothes, including this vest, so I wanted to get in one more wear.  I'm so ready for sandals and short sleeves, but I still have some many clothes I hate to pack away.  Tell me I'm not alone?

I can't wait to see what you girl's came up with day, link up details are down below.

Tips for Styling an Apple Shape

First off, have you entered my awesome giveaway yet? Don't miss out. : )

Today I'm excited to be back with another edition of my series, dressing for your body type. In case you've missed it first I talked about how to dress for an hourglass shape, next I talked about dressing for a pear shape, then I talked about dressing for inverted triangle. Today I'll be discussing how to dress if you are an apple shape.  Not sure if this applies to you, here are some characteristics:

  • You have the appearance of being round, slightly wide around the waistline
  • Your waistline lacks or has no waist definition
  • Your hips and butt might be wide and full along with your waist
  • Your silhouette is round
  • Bust, waist and hips are very close in measurements
  • You probably have great legs
  • You hips many be narrow (like an inverted triangle) but you have a fuller waist
  • You may have slim arms

If this is you, here are some tips for how to dress for your shape:

Radiant Orchid with Anjolee

Since Radiant Orchid has been announced as the color of the year I've been excited for spring and the chance to wear it.  Recently I was contacted by Anjolee, to share their jewelry with you.  I love statement jewelry as much as the next girl, but I LOVE my diamonds.  Anjolee has a beautiful selection, all of which you can customize. Today I'm going to show you some great looks featuring both Pantone's Color of the Year and the beautiful jewelry you can find at Anjolee.

The first look I created is for the weekend.  I loved these Diamond Stud earrings, and in fact I wear similar ones on a daily basis. I also love the ease of wearing a Diamond Pendant necklace.  I found these great ankle pants in radiant orchid and paired them with a light white shirt and denim jacket, perfect for the spring transition.

Weekend Wear

The next outfit I came up with was for girls' night!  I look forward to these great times with friends and love this blouse I came across to wear out.  I paired it with great black skinny jeans and this beautiful tuxedo jacket.  The perfect final touch is this Three Stone Pendant.

Date Night

Blouse / Blazer / Black jeans / Heels / Bracelet / Three stone pendant

The final look I came up with was for date night.  I also look forward to these great nights out with Brian and love this dress in radiant orchid I found.  I really love these Diamond Circle earrings and this Diamond Teardrop bracelet and think they'll really shine on a night out on the town.

Style Swap Link up, Week Five

This week I'm style swapping with the beautiful Priya at Perfectly Priya.  I thought her outfit last week was adorable.  I love the plaid, skirt, boot combo she wore and for my spin I added my fur vest.  I've been wearing it quite a bit lately, I just know it'll be too warm to wear it soon enough, so I need to get my wears in.  I'm also wearing my new necklace from Purple Peridot.  Holy Smokes I love it!  I succumbed to the "Insta-pressure" after seeing it all over my feed and am so glad I got it.  I shall wear it every day.

I can't wait to see your looks today, link up details are down below.

Navy Print

I really like this dress, but for some reason it's been forgotten in my closet.  I decided to pull it out today and pair it with my favorite blazer.  There's nothing ground breaking about this look, but I love how put together I feel and maybe the fun print will distract everyone away from my blinding white legs....

Also, I'm having a great time seeing everyone's Style Swaps, I'd love to have you join the fun this Friday.  Button is on the side bar for you to grab. : )

Winning Combination

This year "the one that got away" was J.Crew's striped excursion vest.  Oh, I wish I'd gotten it!  I guess this striped cardigan will have to be the next best thing. I really like it paired today with my chambray and red jeans. I like it with the heels for work, but  I'm on the hunt for the perfect leopard flat, maybe these would actually be comfortable?  I've tried on a bunch but my feet have rejected every pair.  Anyone have any these love?

Tips for Styling a Rectangle Shape

Today I'm excited to be back with another edition of my series, dressing for your body type. In case you've missed it first I talked about how to dress for an hourglass shape, next I talked about dressing for a pear shape, then I talked about dressing for inverted triangle. Today I'm going to share with you some tips for how to style a rectangle body shape. I happen to be this shape and through this series I've found there are more girls this shape then I previously thought.

Not sure if this is your shape, here are some characteristics:
  • Your bust and shoulders are about the same width as your hip-line
  • You might look shorter and heavier than you are
  • Your waist is 1" to 8" smaller than your bust and hips
  • You may have a short waist
Here I am in all my rectangular awesomeness.  All of these characteristics apply to me.  All of them.  This would be the reason why you usually don't see me sporting just one shirt or flats because at only 5'4" 5'3" "I'm a little tea pot..."

If this fits you, use these tips to look your best each day:

Bold Colors and Gingham

Creating outfit is pretty fun to do, in my opinion.  I usually spend part of Grant's nap on a Saturday laying out different looks on my closet floor and snapping pictures for the future.  I was especially excited about this outfit and actually wore it last week and showed it on Instagram here. I felt confident all day, then came home and snapped some quick pictures. Some outfits are definitely worth repeating and I think this is one of them :)

In exciting news, its about a month until Go Blog Social!  I went August and am excited to go again with my sister.  Grant is going to stay home with Dad, so I'll have all weekend to hang out with my sister and learning about fun blogging stuff.  Anyone else in the Midwest going?  I didn't get the chance to connect with any blogging friends in the fall, but I'm really hoping to see some familiar faces this time. Who's in???
