Lovin' Lace

I've been part of this fun blogging world for three months now and really enjoying getting on blogger each day, enjoying a cup of coffee and reading what all you lovely bloggers have to say and wear.  I love getting to read about your lives, the celebrations, and your daily happenings.  This leads me to my question.  The content on every blog is so unique to each person, some like me devote it more to fashion, some food, some DIY, and to some it seems like a journal they share with the world.  Since blogging can be some unique to each one of us, is a filter necessary?  What do you think?  Is it ok for a blog to be somewhat unsensored with with "sailor talk" and the possibility of sharing things that could be unethicial, or should a blog be PG with us realizing anyone could read it.  What are you thoughts?  I'm truly interested.

  1. I'm loving the lacy dress! As for blog content, I've chosen to keep my blog PG and "ethical". I know that that is not for everyone, but it's my decision :) Happy Wednesday!

  2. While my blog is a personal diary/journal in some cases, I never put anything on my blog that I'd be worried about my students or parents or administration seeing. My blog is very superficial in that regard--I don't talk about my job (except to say that it's awesome, which it is), and I try to stay away from being TOO personal. I think the only "bad language" on my blog was from a guest post or comments, but I keep my "gee golly gosh" type cursing. ha! :)

    1. Thanks for sharing Whitney. I'm with you, I'd hate to have anything on here that my students, coworkers, principals could find offensive. Teaching puts a different spin on having a blog :)

  4. The lace dress is sooo pretty on you! I don't talk much about certain topics on my blog (such as my job) for fear of who's reading it. But I do think it's a personal choice what you chose to blog about. If someone doesn't like it, let them read something else :)

  5. i love this dress and it looks great with those fun shoes! i definitely think that my blog is a slightly censored version of myself, but i also think i'm a little different in different situations. for example, i'm different with my friends than i am when i'm at work. but i don't think that means i'm not being genuine! some people are 100% themselves at all times, and that's great, but for me, i'm more comfortable in tailoring myself to the situation/audience (while still making sure i'm ME - just the appropriate version of me for the situation!) i think it's just what you are comfortable with :)

  6. I like my blog to be a reflection of my personality, how I am in real life every day. Some prefer the shock factor, others adopt a persona for blog land. Some do it purely for entertainment. To each his (or her) own, I guess. There's an audience for everything, it seems.

Could this dress be any more perfect?? Seriously, you can do a lot with that and it's appropriate for all seasons. I love this! Thanks so much for linking up!

    1. Thanks Allison, I was pretty excited to find it. I like to have mine reflect who I am too. I think that comes through on your blog too :)

  7. I pretty much agree with Whitney. I really try not to put anything really personal on the blog (talking about exactly which company I work for or that my husband works for, talking about my extended family too much, talking about anyone I know, really) and I choose not to cuss or say anything profane on my blog because I don't use language like that in real life. I don't think less of someone if they choose to cuss on their blog. I think your blog should reflect your personality, you know? The only thing that makes me cringe is when I see bloggers whine about their husbands or some other awkward scenario... I don't wanna hear your life gossip! You know?

I'm also not *opposed* to mentioning anything somewhat "adult" on my blog (ha, such as one of my most recent posts...) but I try to keep those instances few and far between and I try to do them with tact. Does that make sense? Like, I don't mind mentioning something like birth control or religion on my blog in a non-opinionated way (like trying to convince someone one way or another), but yeah. That's just me!

I guess in general, I try to keep the messages in my blog light, impersonal and inoffensive as much as I can because the focus of my blog is not my life, but my style & beauty preferences. But to each his own! I've seen blogs with more personal content, and I think that's a great way to effectively help people who may be going through what you're going through. I've seen blogs about infertility or divorce, etc, and I saw so many women who found comfort through another woman's similar issues. And that's the awesome thing about blogging, is that connection of one woman to another on some issue, where one woman in California can help another woman she's never met before in New York.

Holy cow, this is so long. LOL I guess I have a big opinion about this! Anyway, what I MEANT to say was: I love navy with leopard print and I did not know that until I saw you wear the two together. That is all. <3

    1. And I feel like I wanna clarify "whine about their husbands"... I mean, every blogger could say "I wanted this new purse but my husband said no, what a meanie!". That's normal and fine in my opinion. I just cringe when I see stuff like "My husband and I have been fighting a lot lately, I don't know what this means," etc. Does that make sense? Like, there are blogs that are about marriage and stuff like that, in which case I think that setting is more appropriate for conversation like that. But on a style blog? Girl, I just wanna see your clothes. I'mma get creeped out real fast if you start putting alllllll your beef on the Internet like you have no shame, LOL. Does that make sense, Ginny? I'M RAMBLING SO MUCH!

  8. Love your outfit. Love your lace dress. Can't wait to wear mine in the Summer. I have a huge potty mouth but I try and keep it out of my blog. I also try and keep my blog from getting too personal. I don't devulge too much information to maintain my privacy and the safety of my family. It's really up to each individual person as to what they want their blog to be like. I like yours. It's honest and straightforward and funny.

    1. Ah, thanks Agi, that was such a sweet compliment! I hear you about privacy and safety. Blogs are for fun, the last thing you want to do is disclose information that could cause a problem.

  9. You look so bright and springy!

I really struggle with what to post on my blog, in part because I tend to be fairly private on the internet, but also because I don't want to be responsible for revealing things about other people (friends, family) when they didn't sign on to blogging. For example, I never post pictures of anyone other than myself (my husband is the only exception). But, I appreciate that so many people are following along with my journey, so I do try to find ways to be open about what's going on in my life. I think it's all a balance, but it's definitely not one I have the answer to!

    1. Thanks for the sweet compliment! I hear you about people's privacy, I haven't posted info about my friends on here either. This isn't the same as Facebook where only those who you want to see it can.

  10. What a gorgeous lace dress, you look absolutely stunning! I think it depends on the purpose of your blog and why you started it. Some started to share their personal style and I think it makes sense to share who you are, and your stories. Sometimes I share personal events because I didn't get other posts ready, or it captures what I wore for weekend events. Otherwise, I try to keep it PG. Yes, it is a blog about my personal style, but I'm trying to focus on helping inspire others and sharing whatever knowledge I have about style, fashion, beauty and travel. I keep the NON PG talk for my personal FB page and hanging out with my friends. My blog is only a small peek into who I am and my life!

  11. I don't put personal details on my blog, like where I live, where I work/ go to school, that kind of thing. Every one is entitled to an opinion though, so I think opinions should be on your blog, but nothing racist, or discriminating that could hurt people. I like reading a mixture of things: DIY, fashion (obviously :) ) and a little bit of opinions, that kinda thing.

Great outfit, I love lace dresses

  12. First of all, adorable outfit! Your lace dress has such a beautiful, classic, romantic look! Secondly, I feel that someone's blog should accurately reflect who they are. I am a person who loves God and tries hard to use discretion in everyday conversations, so that is how I gage what to share on my blog. In regard to faith, I speak freely. In regard to feelings or deep things in life, I keep that close to the chest. Basically, if I wouldn't share it with someone at the grocery store, I won't share it on my blog :)

  13. First of all, you're beautiful. Second of all, I think you should feel free to put online anything you'd say in person. It is annoying when people (meanie commenters) use the internet to hide behind to say awful things that nobody would ever blah blah blah about in real life. But I think people should be real. There is sometimes too much fake-ness in the bloggy world (guiltyyyy).

    1. Thanks for the sweet compliment! I'm with you on people who hide behind their computers. I'm not a fan. I think this should be a positive experience and if you don't have something nice to say, don't say anything at all. And, don't be creepy. That's important too :)

  14. Hey lady, cute outfit once again. Depending on the type of blog you have, it can be a reflection of the individual and what is written is out in the blogesphere forever. It's truly up to that person to determine who he/she wants to reach and what they want their readers to know. Enjoy the rest of your day!

  15. You look so pretty. Love the white lace dress! I think the whole point of blogging is to share what you love. If you choose to have it be very personal, then more power to you. If someone doesn't like it, then they can just simply not read it.

Also, you asked about my setting... sometimes I do auto, sometimes I do manual, and sometimes I do portrait! haha I think I have been using manual lately with a flash because our weather has been so blah with no sunshine!

  18. This dress is so cute! And I love it paired with the navy cardigan.

As for filtering a blog, I'm pretty much constantly aware of it. But I also feel that as a teacher, I'm used to doing that with several aspects of my life. I think it's fine how other people use their blogs, because it's their outlet and the people who are bothered by it can choose not to follow them. I think it would probably depend a lot on where you are professionally and what your overall personality is. I'm not one to regularly get super personal with people I don't know or use language that could be offensive to strangers, and so my blog is the same.

  19. Beautiful dress, girly & fun. You made it more elegant with the blazer. I have loved every single outfit you have put on this week, Ginny. I wish I could add them all to My Week's Best Looks. It will be so hard choosing a favorite if I do. This is your Most Stylish Week this year, I think.

  20. I meant to say cardigan not blazer though a classic black cardi could serve as a blazer.

To answer your question, I think a good blog should definitely remain mostly PG and stay true to content and to that person's aesthetic. My blog is mostly a personal style journey, however I talk about my life there, my baby, I have Guest Bloggers, Wuishful Shopping & other Shopping lists, tips & ideas. I also talk about date nights, share photos of my husband and I and lately have been tackling some Food Recipes, too. No need ever for a blogger to curse or use a bad language, offend or be negative to anyone. I appreciate criticism and advise as long as it is constructive & comes from a genuine place. Hope I answeredyour question, let me know. =)

  22. I love to add a little personality into the blog but I keep it PG and don't touch on topics like politics and religion. I think a blog is meant to be a reflection of who you are and that's what makes it so fun - we all add something different to the blogging world.

Love the dress, sis! Love you!

  25. First off, STUNNING outfit. Love the dress so much!! And love the navy cardigan!

Also I feel like finding a balance between risqué and tame is necessary on the internet. Just cause friends, family, and coworkers can see it and so it's good to air on the side of caution. Humour and honesty are always good though!
