My New Favorite Outfit: Doing it All

Doing it All

In the past twenty four hours I have heard multiple women in my life say how overwhelmed they feel.  If they're being a good teacher, then they go home and are exhausted and they don't think they can be a good wife and mom.

I get this. There are days I come home and I am more than happy to let Grant stay on the iPad for a bit to long while I race furiously around the house doing things that "have" to be done.

Just one more load of laundry.

Load and unload the dishwasher.

What's for dinner?  Ah, man, I forgot to thaw out meat. Tomato soup and grilled cheese it is.

I rush and rush and rush. I'm tired, I'm spent. I've already spent eight hours engaging with a herd of 7th graders and I worry that the few hours I have with family I'm not always "present" because I'm tired or trying to get things done around the house.

I worry I don't play enough with Grant. I worry I don't do enough to make Brian feel special.  I worry that the house isn't picked up and, man, that toothpaste in the sink. Gross.  Even as I write this the list of to-dos keeps going in my head.

As women we've all got about five-seven balls we're juggling in the air all at one time. We're scared if we let one ball fall, they'll all fall. It's exhausting.  Being perfect isn't possible, so why do we set the bar at perfection then feel like a failure when we can't hit the mark?

In the midst of trying to do it all, we put a lot of pressure on ourselves. We can get anxious and overwhelmed.

But, I'm reminded in Psalm 46:10 to "Be still and know I am God." God's got me covered, he's got you covered too.

He put me and you in this very place for a purpose.  For a reason.  He believes in us. "Be still and know I am God."

I might not be perfect, I might not be super-mom, I might not be at my best each day, but God still loves me-and you-anyway.

So when I'm worried about my list of to-do's and my fears that I'm not at my best with my family I'm called to" Cast all my anxiety on him because he cares for me." (1Peter 5:7).

Our families know we're trying, they know we love them, they know we care.

Now about my clothes. Let's talk about this outfit for minute, it's probably one of my favorite to date. I can't get enough of this vest and this skirt, saying they were on heavy rotation would be an understatement.

And, these boots! I few weeks ago I won an Instagram contest that DSW was having and I won a free pair of shoes.  I've been wanting brown riding boots for quite awhile.  I have a great brown pair with a heel, but really wanted flats.  These were literally the first pair I put on and I was sold. I never win anything, so this was a real treat!

  4. Love the pearl necklace, Ginny. Also needed the reminder about God's expectations of us. I have felt pretty disappointed with myself here lately. We didn't go to a pumpkin patch, we haven't had s'mores at our fire pit, we haven't gone camping or done anything "fall." And its almost Christmas. My expectations for Christmas are always way too high and I get disappointed. I'm praying to my heavenly Daddy that my focus will be on my family and being grateful and leaving the rest at the cross. Thanks so much!

  5. This post really hit home for me...I'm a busy mom of two little boys, I work full time, and I feel like I'm never enough - for my boys, my husband, my career. There is a great quote by Brene Brown, "I am imperfect, but I am enough".

  6. Lovely outfit, I almost bought a NY&co fur vest in those same colors but my sisters didn't like it- now I regret their input as I can't stop thinking about it. You look great Ginny! Thank you for being real and for sharing. I am learning in Bible study Wednesday nights just how important it is to take care of ourselves sometimes and just do something for ourselves but also take 10-15 minutes a day to be still and with God. Such a great reminder. Following ya! Rachel xo

  7. So true what you shared. I always feel overwhelmed and I don't even have a full-time job! Psalm 46:10 is always a good reminder. I saw that vest at Target and thinking I should try it on. Love this whole ensemble. ~Cynthia

  8. I love the outfit, especially the belt! I am one that totally feels like I'm juggling so much... I've really let some things go lately... one being house cleaning, which probably isn't the best idea, but my kids are fed and we're not living in a stye, things just aren't as tidy as they usually are, and I'm learning to be ok with it for now.

  9. You're so right about feeling overwhelmed! We try to do it all and look good while doing it, and it's exhausting. Social media hasn't helped, because every time you feel like you're failing you look at someone's perfectly stylized picture. I agree that we all need to give ourselves a break. Especially during this holiday time when we want to enjoy everyone. Hang in there and love the outfit!!

  10. Those boots are gorgeous! I wondered what you were going to do with that gift card. What a great choice. Worrying is something we all naturally do (especially women) and it's easy to get overwhelmed and not want the ball to drop.

  11. Love those boots!! I'm tempted to buy a fur vest myself, but I'm concerned it wouldn't get worn enough. Maybe I'll have to peruse your archives to see all the different ways you've worn yours!

  13. I love your new boots, and the vest is so cute. I think all moms feel overwhelmed most of the time - and I'm very thankful to you for writing about it, because we often think we're the only one!
