Blog Everyday in May Challenge, Day 16: Something difficult in my lot in life and how I'm overcoming it.
First off, I feel pretty darn blessed to have the life that I have, and although I might complain about small annoyances, I have it pretty good. I decided today to share something that was an adjustment, but I don't really feel there's anything truly difficult to share, as it would belittle situations that people have truly had the strength to overcome.
So, here goes. I like shopping, a lot. I know you are so surprised. Before I was married I could easily spend $200-300 a month on clothes, and another couple hundred on things like pedicures, dinners out, and entertainment. I could save money, but when I did I was pretty much for trips. My husband, on the other is a saver, big time. Because of that we have a nice home, nice cars, and money set aside for emergencies and retirement. Brian and I came to an agreement about spending money: we would each get a certain amount each month to spend on ourselves as we'd like (like the things I listed above). Setting a budget limits money disagreements, because we can spend our budget as we'd wish. Brian usually gets one big thing (probably from Cabela's) and I get like fifty things for the same cost, hence thrift shopping and not buying things without a coupon to the store or additional discount. Would I like to go onto JCrew and say, I'll take two of everything? Heck yes! However, I feel pretty good about myself when I can find cute on trend things for a fraction of the cost.

Great color combo and the necklace ties it all in perfectly. My husband is a big saver too, so it's nice to have a balance for someone like me who loves to shop too! Heather

I love the fun sequin top with the more structured skirt and cardigan! I'm really cheap when it comes to spending since I'm trying to pay off my student loans and save up for an apartment, but otherwise my budget for shopping would be a lot higher!
ReplyDeleteThis looks great on you! Love how the blue in your skirt just pops. Your yellow belt is a nice touch.

I will remember this look for inspiration as I own pretty much all the pieces minus the necklace. But I will get my hands on some Gorgeous Statement Necklaces once I come to US.
ReplyDeleteAnd I will E-Mail you soon about what we have talked. Thanks.
P.S. I would love it for you to mention on a future post the little Mother's Day Feature I did where I included you, a few days ago. Thanks so much.
Wow I love how you incorporated all these colors together - the blues are gorgeous and you look great! x, Kat

I'm kind of on a forced budget because of school loans/ the expense of being on your own (and paying for your own apartment) in NYC. It's tough, but when I DO splurge, it's that much more fun!
ReplyDeleteGreat outfit Ginny. Love the colours. I try to only buy things on sale and that helps. I think we will have to try what you and your husband do. Great idea!!!

I'm terrible at saving, I just have a direct debit so a certain amount automatically gets taken out of my bank and put into savings each months, other wise I'd just spend everything!
ReplyDeleteLove the outfit =)

This outfit just makes me smile! I love the bright colors!
ReplyDeleteHaving a budget is always a good idea. I like to spend but I'm also a saver.. is that even possible? I think it is. My husband used to always buy big ticket items like a set of new golf clubs for $400.. WHAT. Yeah that ended quickly.
ReplyDeleteLove your outfit, you look gorgeous! :)

I know what you mean about spending! Sometimes I forget that we're trying to pay off student loans while the hubby's doing grad school and I go overboard with spending. Maybe we need to set a budget for me... :-)
ReplyDeleteI think setting the budget is the good idea. my hubby and I are trying to figure out our finances. we have not yet haha.
ReplyDeleteI love that necklace so much!!! So cute! I think it is great that you set a budget together. What a great idea! :) you look beautiful!!

Great outfit, I love these colors! I was just saying how I've been loving navy with shades of teal/aqua and this is just perfect, the necklace is amazing!
ReplyDeleteLove these colors together! My husband is much more frugal than I am too. It's definitely an interesting balance! Finding something on sale or for a bargain is definitely rewarding, and having extra money for important stuff is great too.

I feel the same way, after having another baby. We had to budget everything, and im glad we did. I really believe that struggles creates character. If I wasn't forced to budget I wouldn't have learned to use coupons or thrift shopping. Love the mix of blue in this outfit! you look great

I used to shop like mad, and I still do by most people's standards but I've really reigned it in, much better with saving since moving in with my boyfriend.

The boyfriend and I both love to shop...however, we're also both pretty cheap...haha. So we have a stuffed closets and a whole lot of other stuff for not a whole lot of money. I love all the colors in the necklace. Haha! I just bought a pair of shoes half a size too small because I loved them so much. Well, I regret that decision now. I have blisters and a pair of shoes I can't wear. Thanks for linking up for Fav Fashion Friday! Hope to see you back this week!
